Biography:
Artist Robbi Firestone

Robbi Firestone is a contemporary American artist whose work moves fluidly between two interconnected tracks: painting and conceptual practice, united by a lifelong devotion to beauty, inquiry, and emotional truth, and a deep commitment to examining the human condition.

Based between Santa Fe and New York City, Firestone creates works that explore perception, presence, and lived experience. Her practice is rooted in the belief that art is not decoration, but a form of witnessing…a way to metabolize wonder, grief, joy, and the existential questions of our time.

At the center of her painterly work are oil and acrylic paintings of expansive skies, horizons, and abstracted landscapes, informed by daily sunset meditations and sustained observation of land, light, and atmosphere. These paintings are not depictions, but experiences, inviting slow looking and rewarding sustained engagement.
Color, gesture, and scale function as emotional architecture, offering space for the viewer’s inner attention to settle, breathe, and reflect their own inner weather.

Running parallel to this work is Firestone’s conceptual practice, which addresses larger cultural and existential concerns, including climate anxiety, political instability, bodily autonomy, grief, and collective vulnerability. Through material experimentation, symbolic forms, and unconventional processes, she examines how contemporary life is shaped by consumption, fear, grief, and loss, while insisting on art’s capacity to provoke dialogue, empathy, and ethical reflection.

Across both tracks, Firestone embraces a slow art ethos, creating works that resist immediacy in favor of depth, presence, and contemplation. In a culture of constant acceleration and alertness, her work functions as a gentle intervention for the nervous system, affirming that humans need slowness, presence, and sustained attention in order to remain connected, responsive, and whole.

Technology is not a separate category within her practice, but another material language. Through immersive and virtual tools, Firestone extends her inquiry into space, gesture, technology, and consciousness, translating physical mark making into embodied, time based experiences that support presence rather than distraction.

Across all mediums, her work is guided by a singular intention: to create art that is emotionally intelligent, visually arresting, and deeply human.

Ultimately, her work asks:
How do we stay awake without becoming paralyzed?
How do we love the world while acknowledging its precarity?
And how might art function not only as commentary, but as witness, prayer, and provocation?

Her practice honors intimacy in a fast world, meaning in an age of noise, and beauty as both refuge and resistance. Whether through paint, object, or extensive material exploration, Robbi Firestone offers viewers a place to linger, to attend, and to feel gently, fully, gratefully alive.

Bold, contemplative, and quietly radical, her work does not ask for attention to itself, but invites the viewer into a state of inner attention, using art as a way to see, sense, and listen more deeply to oneself.

The exhibition showcased a diverse array of artists from over 20 countries, including famed photographer and defender of the Amazon Sebastião Salgado, environmental painter Sibylle Szaggars Redford, political / philosophical artist Charles Gaines, self-taught woodworker and guitarist Freeman Vines, Hopi / Tewa artist Dan Namingha, and more.
